Its internal resistance is lower than that of a toroidal transformer (the internal resistance of a 3000W toroidal transformer on the market is 0.3-0.8 ohms). Its internal resistance is only 0.2 ohms!

The isolation transformer itself has strong resistance to DC interference, so there is no need to add a DC removal circuit.


Choose a toroidal transformer or an EI transformer?
Because toroidal transformer has no magnetic gap in core, the leakage of magnetic field is very small, and the number of coil turns is small, so its internal resistance can be very low, the quiescent current is very low, and the volume is small, and it is widely used!

There is a magnetic gap in the core of EI transformer, and the leakage inductance is larger than that of toroidal transformer, and its efficiency is not as good as that of toroidal transformer. However, EI transformer has obvious advantages over toroidal transformers when it is used for for the purpose of anti-interference isolation transformer.

1. Anti-DC interference is the weakness of toroidal transformers, while anti-DC interference is the strength of EI transformers: DC interference occurs when the positive and negative waveforms of the mains electricity waveform are asymmetrical. Even when there is DC 1V, more than 2A bias current will be produced for 0.4ohm toroidal transformer.

After superimposing the mains electricity, because the core of the toroidal transformer has no magnetic gap, the core will enter the state of magnetic saturation, so that the efficiency of the toroidal transformer decreases, and it even cannot work. And the toroidal transformer will also produce abnormal noise when a fuse is burned. In order to keep the circuit working properly, as shown in the figure, the primary causes the DC removal circuit:
A. After the primary of the toroidal transformer is added with a DC removal module, the internal resistance will increase (with 3 bridge rectifiers and 1 diode, the current will drop by 0.85V).
B. After having this DC removal module, it doesn't matter how thick the wall line in front of you is upgraded.
C. The current passes through a diode nonlinear device, which deteriorates the sound, and your good wire cannot function.

If you have toroidal isolation transformer, you can try to get rid of a DC removal board, and the sound will become loose and natural. But when the interference is stronger, the toroidal transformer will still produce noise.

EI transformer has magnetic gaps, and when DC voltage generates current, the transformer will not be magnetically saturated. EI transformer resits to DC interference!

2. Anti-interference ability:
Since the toroidal transformer core has no magnetic gap, the frequency bandwidth, the interference signal passes through the core, coupled to the secondary! While the core of EI transformer has a magnetic gap, the frequency band is small, the interference is attenuated in the leakage inductance, and its anti-interference ability is strong.

Toroidal transformers have poor anti-interference ability. Its input noise is 375mV, and the output is 190mV. However, the British transformer has an input noise of 375mV and an output of about 50mV.
    
The primary stage of the toroidal isolation transformer is added with a DC removal circuit, the internal resistance is greatly increased, and the anti-interference effect is not strong. After using it, many audiophiles find that when they first use it, the effect has improved significantly, but after using it for a long time, they find that the sound is too clear, the homophony of the instrument becomes less, it is not user-friendly, and the sound is not lively. With the EI transformer, there is no isolated DC board and no output capacitors. After the comparison, the noise is lower, the details are rich, the homophony of the instrument is rich, natural, and the musicality is very good.

Advantages of British transformer:
- The internal resistance of the transformer is 0.2 ohms, which is lower than the internal resistance (0.3-0.8 ohms) of 3000W toroidal transformers commonly found in the market.
- It uses square copper wires of 5.6 square millimeters to wind. The inductance, transformer and sound of the square copper wires are particularly good.
- In order to maximize the current output, the transformer reduces the internal resistance, and the number of turns is designed to be less than normal, so that a large wire diameter can be used. This design depends on high-temperature resistant insulated wires.
- In addition, if the surface area ratio of square copper wire is 27% more than that of the round copper core (when the side length and diameter are the same), the current will go to the surface, which is equivalent to the internal resistance of the copper core is smaller, and the system is better restored.

What are the characteristics of isolation transformer and filter in terms of technical indicators?

As pictured above, the filter does not have the ability to remove DC. It has no suppression ability against common-mode interference from 60Hz-9KHz. However, shielded EI transformer is able to remove DC and 60Hz-9KHz common mode interference!
