Use a real 100KHz sine wave to measure the internal resistance (ESR) of a capacitor, which is equivalent to the test method of a capacitor manufacturer. More Details:
- Automatic range: Press and release RANGE button, the first line of the LCD will display "AUTO" (automatic), in the automatic mode, the meter will automatically select the appropriate detection range.
- Manual range: Press and release the RANGE key to manually select range 0-1R, 1-10R, 10-100R. The first line of the LCD will display MANUAL, and the second line will display 0-1R, 1-10R, 10- 100R.
- ZERO button: Short-circuit the test clip to eliminate the resistance of the test lead. Press and release ZERO button, the LCD screen displays ZERO, and wait for the zero to disappear. If you are using an array socket, you need a short pin to short-circuit and clear it.

A1: It is specially designed to measure the ESR value of a capacitor. It cannot measure capacitance!

In the LED display screen shown below, "470.0UF" in the lower line of letters is displayed. This value is not the capacity value of the capacitor under test. This value is only a reference value, meaning that if the capacitor under test is less than 470.0UF, it shows that capacitance is good, and this "good" is just a relative concept!


Q2: Can this MESR-100 measure the ESR value of a capacitor online? In addition, do I need to discharge before measuring a capacitor?
A2: MESR-100 can measure the ESR value of capacitor online, or remove capacitor to test, both of which are possible, because the output voltage of its test leads is very small. Before measuring capacitors, especially for large voltage it needs to discharge capacitors.

Q3: How to understand ESR value? When is the ESR value good and when is the ESR value bad?
A3: Every manufacturer hopes that the ESR value of its capacitor is as small as possible, but in the production process, there will inevitably be some impurities or other factors that make a capacitor not a pure one. Q4: Why is there interference in the value I measured? Sometimes the reading always changes?
