Overview:
PMSA003
is a digital and universal particle concentration sensor, which can be
used to obtain the number of suspended particles in the air, i.e. the
concentration of particles, and output them in the form of digital
interface. This sensor can be inserted into variable instruments related
to the concentration of suspended particles in the air or other
environmental improvement equipment to provide correct concentration
data in time.
Working Principle:
Laser scattering
principle is used for such sensor, i.e. produce scattering by using
laser to radiate suspending particles in the air, then collect
scattering light in a certain degree, and finally obtain the curve of
scattering light change with time. In the end, equivalent particle
diameter and the number of particles with different diameter per unit
volume can be calculated by microprocessor based on MIE theory. Please

follows.

Output Result:
Mainly
output as the quality and number of each particles with different size
per unit volume, the unit volume of particle number is 0.1L and the unit
of mass concentration is μg/m³.
There are two options for
digital output: passive and active. Default mode is active after power
up. In this mode sensor would send serial data to the host
automatically. The active mode is divided into two sub-modes: stable
mode and fast mode. If the concentration change is small the sensor
would run at stable mode with the real interval of 2.3s.And if the
change is big the sensor would be changed to fast mode automatically
with the interval of 200~800ms, the higher of the concentration, the
shorter of the interval.
Pay Attention to Circuit Design:
1.
PMSA003 needs 5V power supply, this is because fan needs 5V drive. But
other data communications and control pins all need 3.3V as high level.
Therefore, the motherboard MCU connected to it should be 3.3V power
supply. If the motherboard MCU is powered by 5V, a level conversion chip
or circuit should be added to the communication lines (RXD, TXD) and
control lines (SET, RESET).
2. SET and RESET have internal pull-up resistors. If they are not used, they should be left floating.
3. PIN6 and PIN8 are used for internal debugging of the program and should be left floating in the application circuit.
4.
Pay attention when applying the sleep function: the fan stops working
during sleep, and it takes at least 30 seconds to stabilize the fan to
restart. Therefore, in order to obtain accurate data, the sensor working
time should not be less than 30 seconds after sleep wakeup.
Installation Precautions:
1.
The metal shell is connected to the internal power ground. Be careful
not to short-circuit with other external board circuit or chassis shell.
2.
The plane where the air inlet and outlet are located is close to the
air holes on the inner wall of the user's machine and the outside world
is the best installation method. If this is not possible, there is no
block within 2cm of the air outlet. There should be a structure between
the air inlet and the air outlet to isolate the air flow and avoid the
air flow from the air outlet to the air inlet directly inside the user
machine.
3. The ventilation hole on the inner wall of the user
machine for the air inlet should not be smaller than the size of the air
inlet.
4. When applied to purifier products, try to avoid placing
the sensor directly in the air duct of the purifier. If it is
unavoidable, set up a separate structural space and place the sensor in
the air duct of the purifier. isolation.
5. When used with purifiers
or fixed detection equipment, the sensor position should be more than
20cm above the ground. Otherwise, it may be contaminated by large dust
particles or even flocs near the ground, causing the fan to wind up and
stop rotating.
6. When the sensor is used in outdoor fixed equipment,
the protection of sandstorms, rain and snow, and willow catkins should
be completed by the equipment.
7. The sensor is an integral
component, the user should not disassemble it, including the metal
shielding shell, to prevent irreversible damage.
Other Precautions:
1.
This sensor data ensures the consistency between the factory
individuals, and does not use third-party testing instruments or data as
comparison standards. If the user wants the final measurement result to
be consistent with a third-party testing equipment, the user can
perform data fitting based on the actual collection result.
2. This
sensor is suitable for ordinary indoor environment. If the user
equipment is used in the following actual environments, corresponding
protective measures should be added to the sensor, otherwise, excessive
dust, oil, and water may cause data consistency to decrease:
a) The
annual dust concentration is greater than 300 micrograms/cubic meter for
more than 50% of the time, or greater than 500 micrograms/cubic meter
for more than 20% of the time, such as a smoking room;
b) Fume environment, such as kitchen;
c) High water fog environment, such as hot springs and bathrooms;
d) Outdoor.
